Following the success of the Shangri-La Toronto, we are pleased to be contributing another building only a few hundred feet away, as it gives us the opportunity to further curate this neighbourhood’s built-environment.
19 Duncan is a joint venture between Westbank and Allied. Designed by Hariri Pontarini Architects, the project will retain in its podium levels the visual integrity of the existing historic building and integrate a 57 story rental residential tower. The podium office space has already been 100 percent pre-leased to a global media and technology leader, making a significant renewed commitment to Toronto and Canada. We are thrilled to be collaborating with them to create some of Canada’s most exciting workspace. At-grade, the project will feature a unique living room that brings all the components of the project together in a “collision zone” that we think will be unique in Canada and if successful, something that we could build upon. 19 Duncan is an important component to our practice’s expansion in Toronto, we would like to think of the surrounding neighbourhood as an area of future concentration for us.

Downtown West is Toronto’s most lively neighbourhood. This neighbourhood’s vitality is due to the fact that Toronto’s Entertainment, Fashion, and Financial districts are all located here. Until recently there were limited residential options in Downtown West. However, in the past few years the rezoning of King-Spadina commercial buildings into residential lofts, the downtown condominium and townhome building boom, and the massive redevelopment currently underway at the former railway lands have now made it possible for many more people to live, work and play in this urban neighbourhood.
