This neighbourhood is an excellent choice for young professionals, couples and families looking for a starter home.

History of Uptown Core

Upper Core was originally part of Trafalgar Township which amalgamated with the Village of Oakville and Bronte Village  in 1962, forming a new municipality called the Town of Oakville. Prior to amalgamation Trafalgar Township was an agricultural community. The farming families that settled in what is now Uptown Core are commemorated in the form a  heritage memorial interpretive plaque in Memorial Park the focal point of the Uptown Core neighbourhood. These first settlers included the Jones, Munn, Hays, Sullivan and Fleming Frams which occupied Concession1, lots 13,14 and 15 in Trafalgar Township.

The Trafalgar Memorial, located at the east end of Memorial Park, at the corner of Oak Park Blvd and Central Park Drive, recognizes Trafalgar Township veterans who served during World War I, World War II, and the Korean War. The memorial features the names of almost 700 men and women who served their country. The memorial includes a prominent arch feature and a low garden wall that is a replica of the original Trafalgar Memorial Hall that stood at the corner of Trafalgar and Dundas. Bricks and stones from the original hall were salvaged during demolition and reused in the construction of the memorial.

The present day Uptown Core neighbourhood was first contemplated by the Town of Oakville in their 1987 official plan. It underwent many revisions and amendments before anything was actually built in the 2000s. This neighbourhood is still being built at the time of writing this in 2018.
