The Welcome to Streetsville sign situated on Mississauga Road proudly pronounces Streetsville as “The Village In The City” of Mississauga. “Over 300 shops and services to services to serve you! Small town history in every step you take”. This depiction is a fair one. Streetsville is indeed a picture postcard community that has maintained its rural charm despite the urban encroachment on its doorstep.
Queen Street S. the main road through town is lined with historical houses dating back to the 1800s. These heritage homes are now largely occupied by mom and pop businesses. Streetsville’s old houses, churches, cemetery, the Reid Mill and the train tracks, all add to the aura of this quaint village. Streetsville is bordered by the railway and Go Train service to the south and the beautiful Credit River valley to the north. The Streetsvile arena complex that includes the Hazel McCallion community hall all is one of the nicest neighbourhood facilities in Mississauga. Streetsville residents celebrate their community each year at The Bread and Honey Festival which is held during the first weekend in June. This is a not to be missed event with live performances, carnival rides and games and food for the whole family.
History of Streetsville
In 1819. Timothy Street financed the survey of what is now Streetsville. Street would later operate Mills on the Credit River and become a key cog in Streetville’s ascent to prominence. When the local post office was opened in 1829 it adopted the Streetville name in honour of its founding father Timothy Street.Industry continued to flourish in Streetville through the early 1800s culminating in Streetsville’s official incorporation as a village in 1859, followed by its incorporation as a town in 1862. Alas, the good times and heady days were not too last as the vital railway lines that began to emerge in the 1850s would bypass Streetsville. By the 1900s Streetville had taken on a new identity as a tight knit rural community fuelled by small businesses and was no longer a mill town. In 1974 Streetsville amalgamated with neighbouring municipalities to form the City of Mississauga. Today, Streetsville has the largest concentration of historic buildings in Mississauga. It has not forgotten its small town roots and its citizens are proud to call this community their home.

The Streetsville Business Improvement Association maintains an ongoing beautification and maintenance of the shopping village ensuring a first class shopping experience. The BIA hosts a number of year-round events and promotions which draw many shoppers to this vibrant village shopping district.
Recreation in Streetsville
The Vic Johnston Community Centre located at 335 Church Street has been the centre-point for hockey, skating, community events and meetings in Streetsville for five decades. Recently renovated to become a state-of-the-art facility, the VJCC is home to the Streetsville Hockey League and the Streetsville Tigers of the GTHL. This community Centre is also the home of the The Hazel McCallion Hall which hosts a wide assortment of community events from: Banquets, Wedding Receptions, Engagement Parties, Dances, Meetings and Trade Shows.
In behind the Vic Johnston Community Centre is Streetsville Memorial Park which encompasses 30 acres and occupies an idyllic setting along the banks of the Credit River. This park features a swimming pool, a soccer field, field of dreams softball diamond, and a batter’s cage.. The pedestrian trail that follows the meandering Credit River is the perfect place to enjoy the outdoors and go for a leisurely stroll. Streetsville Memorial Parl is also known as the home of the Streetsville Founders annual Bread & Honey Festival. Established in 1973 this festival features great food and entertainment for the whole family. This festival usually takes place the first weekend in June.
